COMPLETE BIO

Born in Blumenau, SC, Brazil, Lucio Rebello began playing the classical guitar at the age of 8. By the time he became a teenager, he was already playing in recital halls, performing works by renowned composers such as Bach, Tarrega, Villa-Lobos and Brouwer. Around the same time, Lucio began studying the electric guitar, and almost immediately started to play with local rock bands and in music festivals.

Lucio Rebello was a member of rock band Punch, with whom he performed extensively throughout Brazil. The group was featured twice in the Skol Rock Festival (one of his country’s biggest music festivals), in 1995 and 1996.

He started his own band in 1997, Odd Search, a Progressive-Rock band that recorded a self-titled EP in 1998. The band earned rave reviews in Brazil and abroad, performing extensively during 1998 and 1999.

In 1999, Lucio received the coveted B.E.S.T (Best Entering Student Talent) Scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music (Boston-MA). Another scholarship followed in 2001, The Berklee Achievement Award.

His main teachers while in college were guitarist Wayne Krantz (Michael Brecker, Steely Dan, Billy Cobham), composer Richard Davis (orchestrator for Oscar nominated and Grammy winning composer Michael Kamen) and composer/conductor Julius Williams (conductor with various prestigious orchestras around the world, such as the Washington D.C. Symphony Orchestra).

Lucio also had master classes with:
Guitarists Mike Stern, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Dave Fiuczinsky and composer/arrangers Mark Isham, Terence Blanchard, Basil Poledouris and Alan Broadbent.

At Berklee, Lucio studied Classical composition, orchestration and conducting, as well as Jazz improvisation. Although his instrumental studies focused mainly on the guitar, he also studied the piano, bass and vocal technique, hence becoming a well-rounded multi-instrumentalist.

His performance experience includes Jazz-combos, as well as Classical chamber and Rock groups.

Lucio Rebello graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Scoring.

During the last four years, he performed with or had his compositions performed by the following renowned musicians: guitarist Gustavo Assis Brasil (Guitar Player magazine’s Spotlight, The Dig Trio, Mathew Nicholl, Greg Hopkins, Duo Bicho Folha), drummer Mauricio Zottarelli (Marc Rossi’s Group, Tim Ries, Sal Di Fusco’s Group,), trumpet player/composer Angus Moncrieff (Georges Delerue Award), composer/guitarist Andre Cortada (Alf Clausen Award), bassist Nick Salisbury (Mick Sterling Band) and singers/songwriter Adam Sharon, with whom he played on an U.S. Tour in 1999.

Lucio is currently the music supervisor of the major Brazilian movie “ Manha Transfigurada” (to be released in 2004), directed by noted director Sergio Assis Brasil.

Lucio is pursuing parallel careers as a film composer and a singer/songwriter.

His solo album debut will be released in early 2004.
